Atlanta was organized in 1883 and was probably named after Atlanta, Georgia. Today Atlanta serves as a bedroom community to Holdrege, Bertrand and Loomis. During World War II Atlanta had a six million dollar prisoner of war camp and was the center for distributing the prisoners to other camps as well. Atlanta is surrounded by beautiful black soil filled with corn and wheat. Although small at 112 citizens, it plays an integral part in the agricultural society in this area.
